I. As (male) homosexuality (sodomy) in Jesus' time was looked down on by Jewry as what the peole would 'backslide' to, were it not for the Law; that is to say, what the Law (Torah) saved them from becoming ....

Romans 9.29: "Unless the Lord of Host had left us a seed, we should have become like Sodom." (echoing Isaiah 1.9) Who are the seed? "Not those who are children of flesh; but those who are children of the promise are counted as the seed." What was required to become heirs? Faithfulness to the spirit in the law. "The promise that he would be the heir of the world was not to Abraham or to his seed through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.." (Romans 4.13). "The promise" refers to Genesis 15.7: "I am the Lord who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans, to give you this land to inherit it". This is why Paul can write: "For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh; but he is a Jew who is one inwardly, and circumcision is that of the heart, in the Spirit, not in the letter; whose praise is not from men but from God." (Romans 2.28,29)

II. SO .... Jewry became to Christianity: "sinful" -- looked down on as what Christians would become like, if grace had not surplanted Law for justification (before the father as creator). 4.16 ""Therefore it is of faith that it might be according to grace, so that the promise might be sure to all the seed., not only to those who are of the law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham." Through his faith, not his blood. With carnality comes sin, with sin comes the Law:this is the old way of Judaism before grace. The grace was Christ Jesus, whose perfect obedience to the Spirit (text), not letter (tokens) of The Law, fulfilled; then went beyond, to kill the effect of law by deadening the soul to sin (carnal mindedness). Belief in Jesus as Christ, Son of Abram's God, frees whoever accepts his death and participates in his resurrection from Old Adam's original sin of carnal mindedness. Paul admits being mightily plagued by it.

This is the fundamental split on which the religion of Christianity is based.
